We’re just back from three days of talking with hundreds of database heroes at PASS Summit – the gathering of Professional Association for SQL Server members. What an amazing crew! Stories of heroic data recoveries, weekend night maintenance marathons, and harrowing upgrades filled the week.
Sharing how ScaleArc can augment SQL Server to dramatically improve application uptime created a lot of “lightbulb” moments – when they really got the value of our software
Two weeks back I wrapped up 6 customer meetings in 2 ½ days in the Southern US. We met with a number of Fortune 500 companies in the Shipping and Healthcare industries. One was an existing customer, and the rest were prospects.
Insufficient failover options. Maintenance issues. Database migration difficulties. Performance problems. Although ScaleArc prospects and customers have very different business models, the patterns and pain points are all too similar.
ScaleArc’s achieved another step in our close collaboration with Microsoft – Azure certification!
Our ScaleArc for SQL Server software is amongst the first products to be certified on the new Azure Marketplace. Plus, Satya Nadella and Scott Guthrie highlighted ScaleArc in their update to the press last Monday – they noted ScaleArc as one of Microsoft’s software partners that’s helping enterprises sort through their cloud strategy.
Organizations understand the importance of having a disaster recovery (DR) plan in place to help the business quickly restore operations in the event of a failure. The gold standard quickly emerging for architecting DR is an active-active data center configuration, with data synchronization and load balancing for applications between two or more data centers.
In an active/active architecture, both data centers – or as many data centers as are included in the design – serve application traffic at the same time. This design is superior to the more common active/standby design because it provides both an insurance policy against failures and also enables use of the secondary data centers, increasing capacity and therefore application performance.
We were excited to launch the 3.2 release of our ScaleArc for Oracle software a couple weeks ago, in conjunction with the Oracle OpenWorld 2014 conference. But it’s one thing to tell your own story – it’s another to have third-party validation of the strength of your story.
ScaleArc was happy to get that industry validation last week, when 451 analyst Matt Aslett penned these findings:
We’re really excited to unveil our completely revamped website today, driven by our conversations with and questions from our customers.
It’s been so exciting to see ScaleArc's software getting made part of the permanent infrastructure for the data tier of so many phenomenal customers. The ability to deliver zero downtime for apps has changed how customers are running their businesses, and with this new site, we’ve captured the learnings of these customers along the way.
I am very excited that ScaleArc is part of the Solution Exchange launch for VMware vCloud® Air™. ScaleArc’s vision fits perfectly with the VMware vCloud Air ecosystem as many of ScaleArc’s customers are looking at the cloud to launch and test new applications.
"This is as good as it gets for graceful failover.” So concludes the database consultancy Percona about how ScaleArc performs during database failover.
These results were the third in a series with Percona. The first sysbench performance testingshowed how ScaleArc increased response time, even without caching enabled, and introduced no measurable latency. The second test highlighted performance gain on WordPress – limitations of the Percona environment limited gains to 3.5x vs. the 20x in a more loaded environment.
Today we formally announced our relationship with DDP YOGA. I love this story. Diamond Dallas Page, the 3-time WCW World Champion Professional Wrestler from the 90s, suffered ruptured discs and overnight found his career over. Did he give up? No, he persevered. He healed himself with yoga, and then set-out to help millions of others with his system.
That’s why we at ScaleArc are honored to have teamed up with our partner Rackspace, who brought us in to help out DDP YOGA for their appearance on ABC's Shark Tank, and to help their website achieve a zero downtime environment and an otherwise unattainable level of database scalability.
