ScaleArc's Role in Cybersecurity
One of our existing enterprise customers recently saw the security team take ownership of some of the ScaleArc deployments. The reasons, they pointed out, were the unique benefits that ScaleArc provides for making application environments more secure.
ScaleArc is a full SQL proxy with granular AAA (Authentication, Authorization, Accounting), along with real-time logging/analytics of every single query and query filtering capabilities. So with ScaleArc, databases:
- Have tighter controls on who can access them, down to the user/app
- Have all queries logged in granular detail with an easy-to-use User Interface for real-time or historical analysis, to identify data access patterns
- Enable malicious SQL queries, once identified, to be blocked at the ScaleArc layer
ScaleArc also supports end-to-end SSL encryption between the application and the database so that all of ScaleArc’s benefits can be achieved in a secure environment. Plus, with failover capabilities that shield the application from database server changes, this enterprise customer can now do zero-downtime maintenance, so the organization stays up to date on security patches.
While ScaleArc is not a dedicated security device (i.e., we are not a database firewall or IDP/APT technology), you’ll see a lot more features developed in 2015 that help our customers operate a more secure environment. Stay tuned and in the interim, if you want to learn more about ScaleArc, visit us here.
