ScaleArc

Survey Says… !

ScaleArc recently completed a survey of more than 200 enterprises, gathering data on the relationship between database infrastructure and application uptime.

We talk to enterprises all the time about how the database is creating downtime and how they can improve the situation. Despite our daily conversations focused on the database as a source of app downtime, several of the survey findings caught us by surprise.

A few key nuggets:

  • 65% of respondents are suffering outages of 20 minutes to 3 hours, on average
  • unplanned database outages are too frequent, happening at least once a month for 20% of respondents
  • 60% of enterprises rely on manual promotion of secondaries, prolonging the downtime
  • 79% of respondents have to call maintenance windows for their critical apps at least once a month – 34% are doing them one or more times a week
  • 72% of enterprises have to take down their apps for maintenance
  • developers get involved in maintenance windows 52% of the time

See how your organization measures up! Check out all the data – in an infographic, survey report, and full survey response presentation.

Next week, we’re hosting a live webinar with Pythian and Trace3 joining the conversation to discuss these survey findings. Join us and join the conversation!
