Cloud Connect, GDC and DMX
ScaleArc exhibited at GDC (Game Developers Conference) in SF in late March, and Cloud Connect in Santa Clara, CA last week. The attendees may have looked different (not a lot of pink hair at Cloud Connect), but they certainly had one thing in common: the need to scale their database environments without sacrificing performance and availability, and without taking developers off of critical projects to modify existing applications for scale.
We spoke with a constant stream of game developers at GDC from both hot start-ups and more established brands. There was a lot of interest in what we’re doing for KIXEYE (who had a huge presence at the show recruiting in the Career Pavilion), and how we helped them scale from 300 million queries per day to over 3 billion at peak, while actually improving performance and uptime. In fact, we ran out of the 200+ KIXEYE case studies we had available at our booth. So if you missed out, you can read the case study here.
We also spoke with Deezle, a music producer who has worked with Lil Wayne, Mary J. Blige, DMX and Master P, among others, and his team at Drum Major Music. They are building a game that fuses game play with music. Looking forward to it.
We raffled off 3 Google Nexus 7’s at the show. Congratulations to the winners: John B. of Electronic Arts, Brandon H. of Boeing, and Tyler H. of Apollo Group.
Cloud Connect was a bit larger than last year, and had a good mix of cloud solution providers and enterprise customers who are working on cloud deployments. We met with some of our partners, including LiquidWeb and NephoScale, and several potential partners who were looking to build new revenue streams by offering tiered database services including caching, SQL analytics, clustering, load balancing, and more.
The winner of our Nexus 7 drawing at Cloud Connect was Colin H. of 3M. Congratulations, Colin!
It’s been a very busy past couple of weeks, and it’s been both fun and a lot of work. We’re now gearing up for Interop in early May in Vegas. If you’re attending Interop, please stop by and see us!
