PASS Highlights: SQL Server + ScaleArc = Better Together

I’m just back from a great week at PASS. Four crazy busy days and hundreds of conversations. I wasn’t alone in feeling exhausted or really behind on e-mail – you could find folks sleeping on bean bags or trying to stay connected like in this photo in lots of places every day of PASS.

It’s always great to be out talking to the SQL Server gurus – the people on the front lines building systems to keep up with company growth, demanding customers, badly written apps. It was great to have a week of conversations that reaffirmed the strength of the SQL Server + ScaleArc story. People were excited to learn they can architect app-transparent failover and avoid application changes deploying ScaleArc alongside SQL Server’s AlwaysOn capabilities.

The top highlights of the week?

  • whiteboard sessions and architecture reviews with 100s of SQL Server practitioners – it’s always a rush when the light bulb goes off as IT folks see how the ScaleArc abstraction layer enables zero downtime for apps in a database environment. I can’t count how many times I heard “I didn’t know this kind of software was out there” last week – and being able to share the breadth of awesome customers relying on ScaleArc for their most critical apps just nails it.
  • discussions with great Microsoft SI partners and consultants – just as we love helping our customers get to zero downtime for apps at the database tier, we also love helping our SI partners deliver much more efficient projects for their clients. We spent time with Pragmatics Works, SolidQ, and DB Best – as well as the inimitable Denny Cherry – who are all driving SQL Server upgrade and HA architectures with their clients. Being able to avoid the monotonous work of re-engineering apps for database scale out – using ScaleArc automatic read/write split instead – frees them to focus on higher-value architecture work to benefit their clients.
  • insights from SQL Server execs on customer projects and upcoming SQL Server features – Microsoft executives – both at the corporate and SQL Server level – have been fantastic partners for us here at ScaleArc. We enjoyed the opportunity to compare notes on what we’re seeing hamper SQL Server upgrades and how to overcome those challenges. It’s also great to be included in Microsoft’s private “Product Preview” sessions to hear what’s coming down the pike for SQL Server and voice our views on feature priorities.

Despite the long days, I always find myself energized by the enthusiasm of the SQL Server community at PASS – we had these kinds of crowds throughout the week!

We’re excited at the opportunity to drive successful SQL Server upgrades and help customers take advantage of the HA capabilities enabled when you pair ScaleArc and SQL Server.
