Keep the Apps Up: A Few Observations from Velocity
I spent some time at Velocity this week – a conference focused on “building a faster, stronger web.” ScaleArc is exhibiting here for the first time, and there was a distinct vibe amongst the attendees here that I really liked – a sort of palpable pride in what they work on all day.
You could see it their shirts. Black tees with messages like “I get s#*t done” and “I don’t sleep” were all over the place. You could hear in their conversations. “We’re upgrading our data centers and downtime just isn’t an option.” You could read it in the session titles. “How to be Great at Operations.”
ScaleArc’s focus on enabling zero downtime for apps – reducing both unplanned and planned downtime – played really well with this site reliability-focused audience. Sometimes a web-oriented audience can also be a DIY audience, but this crew seemed to not want to tinker all day but instead just deliver great results. The way ScaleArc can help with SQL Server 2012 and 2014 upgrades, improving app availability with auto failover, was eye opening for many of these folks.
Great conversations. Now let’s go “get s#*t done” and keep the apps up.
